Who Can Make Money Talking Sports?

As mentioned above, just about anybody who knows a lot about sports can make money from it. There are no special requirements here. As you’re not competing, you don’t need to be athletically gifted. You don’t even need to be a fan. Here are some of the best ways to make money if you know a lot about sports.

Trivia Nights & Contests

Trivia games are really popular. From local bars to area tournaments, they’re all over the place and are open to anyone. You do need to be at least 18 or 21 years old (if it’s held in a bar) in some cases though. These a great way to make money and win big prizes. The payouts vary, depending on the size and level of competition, but you can expect to make at least tens and up to thousands of dollars per contest. I’d suggest starting out at your local bar to test your skills. Then, as your confidence increases, start looking for regional contests with bigger prizes. You might even try out for game shows like, Sports Jeopardy!. But the competition gets tougher as the payouts get larger, so make sure you know your stuff.

Make a Website

Starting your own blog to share your sports knowledge is another great way to tap into potential earnings. You can write about whatever you like. Whether it’s stats, game histories, player info, or anything else sports-related, the choice is yours. You could even write opinion pieces and game reviews, like a regular sports writer. And if you’re really good and get noticed, you might even turn it into a full-time career. Attracting an audience might be hard, so I suggest starting small. Find a niche, like covering only one team type of athlete before branching out. It’s easier to find readers if your focus on a small target audience because there’s less in the way if competition.

Write a Book

This sort of goes along with the last method. If you really enjoy writing and have lots to say, then try turning it into a book. It’s easy to self-publish and distribute books these days, as e-books are more prevalent. You can do it all from your computer. Just partner with Amazon or another online distributor to release your masterpiece and you’ll be set. You’ll want to do some promotion and get the word out though. Offer free copies to high  authority blogs in exchange for reviews and testimonials.

Challenge Your Friends

Make a few casual bets with friends to see if they can stump you to make a bit of cash. You definitely won’t make as much as with the other methods, but you’ll get test your skills without the pressure. This is a good option if you’re just looking to make a few extra bucks in your spare time. Eventually your friends will get tired of giving you their money though. You might move on to doing sports trivia at your local pub to keep the cash coming. If not, you’d better find some new friends to take advantage of!

Start a Podcast / Give Your Opinion

Podcasts have taken over in recent years. They let us carry on our active lives while listening to interesting stories on all sorts of interesting topics. And modern technology makes it super simple to start your own podcast. Just invest in a decent computer microphone and decide on your topic. Again, the more defined it is, the better. Try to find a way to stand out from the competition. It’s a big sea out there, but lots of amateurs fail. Show off your charisma to draw listeners in. Doing a podcast is great if you’ve got lots to say, but don’t have the skills or patience for writing.
